Adventurous old broads are totally awesome, and few could compete with the adventurous awesomeness of Margaret Ray Ringenberg, who just died at age 87. If you read Tom Brokaw’s “The Greatest Generation,” then you know who she is — but I only learned of Ringenberg on Jezebel. An aviation junkie from girlhood, she was resigned to flight attendant-dom when World War II presented a rare piloting opportunity for young women. Soon she was shuttling military planes across the country and thus began a non-stop air career that included an around-the-world race — at age 72! I love this woman with wings.
