Darn!Darn!Darn! Just when I thought Marc Jacobs had created an ad campaign that I could love, he had to go all WTF-racial on me. See, the clothes and stuff might be a little sucky, but the genius of Marc Jacobs is the entertainment factor, and I have been cracking up from the lady-mobster theme of his latest. Stella Tennant and Kirsten Owen play such hilariously fashion-challenged baddies — a trench with sweats and high-class sandals! — that I am dying to know who offed who for the Rocket bag in image numero doce. The weird thing is this: Why did a designer who based so much of his last (amazing) collection on black Americana — much of it shown on black models —  only feature the hand of a black person in this campaign? And one who purportedly bit the dust at that?

How bummed would you be if you were Kristen Stewart and this was your Teen Vogue cover? It’s not just that they dressed her in a drab-looking wetsuit thing that is supposedly a D&G dress, or that they adorned it with something like crystallized seaweed that is supposedly a Prada necklace. The real issue is that they made such a pretty girl look so ugly, giving her the reality version of the just-rolled-out-of-bed look, with greasy hair, slitty eyes and a sallow complexion. I mean, just because she plays a vampire in “Twilight” doesn’t mean she should look like a walk-of-shame disaster while doing publicity for it. That ain’t cool!

If this is what you get to look like when you sell your soul, marry the devil’s automaton and pull a real-life Rosemary’s baby, I’m thinking Camp Tom Cruise might have been a worthy trade-off for Katie Holmes. She looks freakin’ amazing in T this week!
