If the Rihanna-Chris Brown debacle provides some kind of teachable moment in the annals of relationship violence, then there is exactly one woman who I think could have an impact on Rihanna: Tina Turner. As you may recall, Tina silently suffered years of Ike’s physical abuse, and when she finally left, she spent years in the professional wilderness, before making a huge, against-all-odds comeback. But Rihanna, in a sign of the times, has overwhelming public support — teen girls notwithstanding, according to The New York Times. And while I can’t pretend to know what Tina would advise, I’d bet a new Balmain she wouldn’t recommend wasting all those years with a man so cowardly he beats up chicks.
